Maccell
InterMac DOD Inkjet Printer for Industrial Marking
About the maccell™ Printhead
The maccell™ printhead is InterMac's proprietary printhead technology and the heart of the DOD inkjet system. It was engineered to solve the most common challenges in industrial inkjet marking: nozzle blockage, heavy maintenance cycles, and limited substrate compatibility.
At just 3 grams, the solenoid valve inside the maccell™ printhead is one of the smallest and lightest in the industry. The 4mm compact design allows for installation in tight spaces on existing production lines, making retrofitting straightforward without major line modifications.
Two printhead types are available:
Type C — Water-Based Ink
Designed for porous substrates such as corrugated carton boxes, paper bags, and paper rolls. Type C delivers clean, high-contrast coding on absorbent surfaces at high line speeds.
Type P — MEK-Based Ink
Engineered for non-porous and difficult surfaces, including polypropylene (PP) bags, vinyl, glass, steel, mirrors, and coated paper. Type P uses solvent-based MEK ink to ensure adhesion and durability on surfaces that water-based inks cannot reliably mark.
Key maccell™ printhead advantages:
- Spinning solenoid valve technology eliminates nozzle blocking, a common failure point with competing DOD systems
- Adjustable ink spray volume for consistent dot quality across varying line speeds
- Separated ink-in, ink-out, and recycle lines allow thorough internal cleaning without disassembly
- Auto-clean function maintains printhead performance with minimal operator intervention
- Solenoid valve and rubber needle are individually replaceable, no need to replace the full printhead assembly
